Different model, but worth looking at. Requirements for board 
eligibility, more or less:

      4 years undergraduate
      4 years medical school
      1-6 years of surgical residency (depends if there's a surgical
internship)
      5? years of neurosurgery fellowship.

When does it change from education to work experience?
