actually, i retract that statement. i've only successfully used ip phones with private ip's with gateways that have private ip's as well. i actually tried setting up an external gatekeeper/gw with natted ip phones, using conduit permits on the PIX for the RAS ports, etc. and actually had partial success, but by definition, steven is right.
