I asked Peter Holman for further details of Ann Ford with a Spanish guitar (not
English guitar)and he dropped me the following note:

' It's a sketch that's now at Gainsborough's house in Sudbury reproduced in my
article, and in Michael Rosenthal's recent book on Gainsborough.'

It would be interesting to know more about this.

Tha famous Gainsborough portrait is this:

Ann Ford married Philip Thicknesse: the portrait is of Mrs Philip Thicknesse.

Evidently Gainsborough had a guittar too.

It would be a bit surprising if she was sketched holding a Spanish guitar.

There's another good portrait of someone holding a guittar, possibly by
Reynolds. I saw it in a second hand book at a time when I wasn't remotely
interested in the guittar.
