Umm, there weren't.

Correct. They were there.

Aha! Here's where the problem was. Before I didn't need to run updmap for some reason, something I did using the MikTeX GUI must have done it. But this time I ran it manually from the Command Prompt (brought up on Windows all my life, not used to this), and now everything's working beautifully! Even better than before :)
