I have no opinion here; I think it makes a difference whether you use
latin text within CJK or vice versa.

Yes, this is intentional.

I don't know, honestly.  This is probably highly dependent on the used
latin font.  For example, TrueType fonts in general have a different
baseline compared to Type 1 fonts.  What do others think?

The .fdx file is always loaded -- don't pollute .fd files!
