Is it necessary to wait until labor STARTS before having a c-section done?
or is it safe enough to schedule one as close to due date as possible?
I had a c-section on a litter a couple years ago and was using the Whelp Wise
system. Their recommendation is to wait until they are in labor and
sometimes to a certain point--unless it is an emergency situation. They said
sometimes when you do it on the "due date," the puppies are not really ready
and the placentas are stuck tightly causing more bleeding. My vet said this
was about the easiest and cleanest c-section she had done--no sticking or
bleeding--since she followed their recs of when to do it.
