Susan,
I hope these books are based on positive re-enforcement training instead of
verbal or physical punishment and as I recall in the Monk's books not every
training method covered in their book is built on positive behavior
modification. In fact, I think they use intimidation, control and fear which
I totally disagree with for any dog but especially a cavalier king charles
spaniel. I am not familiar with the Puppy Pre-school book. Here is a list of
more current methods of positive training for dogs and their owners. The
purely positive training method by Sheila Booth is the one I am most
familiar with from Purely Positive Puppy class where all different breed of
dogs excelled as early as day 2 of training. She used a variety of methods
taken from these books to create her class.
Purely Positive Training, Sheila Booth
The Dog Owner's Problem Solver, Bower
Don't Shoot The Dog, Karen Pryor
Final Hope, Joubert
Dogs are from Neptune, Jean Donaldson
The Tellington TTouch, Linda tellington_- Jones with Sybil Taylor
The Toolbox for Remodeling your Problem Dog, Ryan
I hope this is helpful.
