Must I register my kennel name/affix with the CKCSC-USA to be
able to use it; and if I chose to not spend $100 to register something
that I've been using for so long will my puppies be registered with
that
obnoxious "regis" prefix???? Is the idea behind using the "regis"
prefix
to point out the people that are too cheap to pay for the use of their
own
kennel name, or what exactly is the point? Please forgive me if I am
being rude about it, I'm just having a difficult time grasping this
concept!
Can anyone shed some light on the subject for me?

The CKCSC, USA policy regarding affixes has been in effect as long as I have been a
member, over 20 years now, and probably much longer. The Club's use of "Regis" has
been in effect about 15 years or so.

Yes, to use an affix one must register it with the CKCSC, USA. It is then protected
against anyone else using that affix, either as a prefix or in the name of a dog.
"Regis" indicates that the dog is American born, but that the breeder has chosen not
to register an affix. Often the breeder only intends to have that one litter and
doesn't feel it necessary to register an affix-some breeders don't choose to register
an affix until they are more committed to breeding. It is quite interesting if one
looks at pedigrees to track the breeder, owner and in the case of a stud fee puppy,
the owner of the stud dog-you can do this simply by knowing affixes.

In any case, simply because the CKCSC, USA rules are different from that of other
registries, must words like "obnoxious" be used? Other members of this list have been
jumped on for specific registry bashing-either way I support free speech so have at
it. Just keep in mind that if you don'[t like someone criticising the way one registry
does things, perhaps you should show them a kinder way to ask what is a simple
question.
