But they do inherit the coat problem that the grooming and trimming cover up
and encourage. I also have a Beardie friend. She has an old fashioned
Beardie that stays in full coat all the time, and two "show line" Beardies
that she has to keep shaved because the coats too difficult to keep clean and
mat free now that she is not showing.
Talk to collie rescue people they will tell you that difficult to live with
and groom coats is a big reason collie are place in rescue by frustrated
owners. I have been told that these show winning collie coats with so much
volume do not represent the coat required by the standard.
This is an issue close to my heart as I was involved in cocker rescue. Coat
is not just an issue of standard for many breeds but an issue of being pets
people can live with and enjoy, and will be able to keep a life time
commitment too!
