> Dear Liz: I find that books on Cavaliers also tend to omit this breed's
talents in the areas of balancing on the backs of chairs and couches and
their love of walking carefully on fully loaded tables.

Back in '79, I took a 6 wk. cake decorating class. After one of the classes,
we had eaten part of the cake, and I left the cake in the middle of the
table. I remember my husband and I went out to run an errand. We came home
for a short spell, then left again. As I was leaving, I can remember asking
if he had had a piece of cake but he swore he didn't. It really bothered me
because I could swear the cake had "shrunk", but I knew I didn't have any. I
knew the dogs
didn't get up there because the chairs were pushed in all the way, and
besides, the lace tablecloth wasn't messed up. That is, until we came home
the second time and caught Suburban (tri male) eating the cake! As soon as
he saw us, he calmly walked to the edge of the table without disturbing the
tablecloth and jumped down onto the couch. He had icing around his mouth,
but I never did find the knife that he used to cut the cake! (The cake
looked like he had taken a knife and cut a piece for himself - I have no
idea how he was able to eat it so neatly!)
We've moved twice since that episode, and I always make sure the dining
table is far, far away from the couch.
