I usually refer people to our Cavalier club secretary in case she knows of a
litter that I am not aware of. I do take the time to educate the caller as to
what they should expect as far as health testing is concerned. I know from
experience though that if they find a breeder with puppies available, they won't
ask any questions because they just want that puppy that is available NOW.
Answered an inquiry from a woman today. She had a Sibe cross who jumped over the
fence and got run over by a car. Now she wants a Cavaliers. It should come from
a bitch who is pregnant right now so she can get the puppy within 4 to 5 months.
That will give her a couple of months to get it housetrained before the human
baby arrives. I gave her all the reasons for waiting until after the baby
arrives before getting a puppy but even though she listened, I know she didn't
want to hear what I had to say. She even suggested she might go to a local
breeder (puppyfarm) because they usually have some available.
How do you get it accross to people that NOW is not necessarily the best?
