I had a boy many years ago born in a litter of 6 who didn't drop either
testicle until he was 16 weeks old. I felt better that there were none,
than one. They did drop though, without any medical intervetion whatsoever,
not even hormone shots or homeopathic remedies.
I also had a litter that had 3 boys where all 3 boys never dropped any of
their testicles--all were neutered at 6 months of age and needed a little
extra surgery to find those testicles. Mom had problems keeping her
pregnancy long enough and so only produced 4 live puppies before being
removed from my breeding program. She always delivered way too early and I
have no idea if this may have been a contributing factor to the boys not
dropping their testicles or if there was an inherited tendency in her line
(I bought the bitch from someone else and it was a line I knew little
about).
Interestingly enough, even though both the boy in the first paragraph and
the mom in the second paragraph were very healthy themselves, they both had
multiple brothers and sisters that developed all kinds of weird severe
autoimmune problems--problems which caused very early death of at least 2.
I have no idea if they are connected but still find it interesting to
ponder. Thank goodness neither produced many puppies (nor did their
brothers and sisters) and all are spayed/neutered now.
