I am truly enjoying this open discussion...during one of my visit for my
CKCS annual screening at the cardiologist. I had a wonderful discussion
with that Doctor. We discuss the sensitivity and specificity of different
tests and the future of CKCS. I do love research!
My observation from hearing of the variation of this disease from different
breeders and talking with the experts...that there are two basic forms
(along with various sub-forms)... a chronic form has a slow pattern of
progression, and an aggressive form which from the time of onset and/or
diagnosis, the CKCS health declines very rapidly.
This is why it is important once a murmur is detected to obtain a baseline
echo/doppler along with radiograph...reevaluate six months later...observe
the pattern...than annual evaluation form that point on. This give us as
breeders...a broader picture...
This is a complex program without a simple solution...
Also to remember not to label a certain CKCS as a BAD CKCS...if we have the
knowledge we can know how to approach the breeding of different bloodlines
and/or dogs. It will assist us with line breeding... If we are made
aware...Informed decisions can be made...
A final point...I feel finger pointing is so childish and self-serving...
Usually when I see finger pointing...I see a smoke screen...than I ask
myself what are they hiding and/or what are trying to sell me...
Take care,
Kathy Yonkers
