Okay Laura...I truly dislike doing this...this banner of 100-300 dogs keep
being thrown around by the CKCSC-USA. How many of those CKCS are truly
pets? I have already heard in detail regarding this off the list from well
qualified inside sources...

Hi List Again:
As a person who was a member of the CKCSCUSA, I must agree that the
shows were loaded with pets, as well as some very wonderful specimens of the
breed. Now I understand that you are allowed to show spayed and neutered
Cavaliers at CKCSC,USA shows. This certainly will drive numbers up.
However, as a breeder and exhibitor, I always thought the intention of
showing was to bring only your best to ring to compete with the best.
Exhibiting in the AKC is a serious undertaking. I can only imagine how
frustrated pet people get when they come and do not win but do they really
win in the CKCSC,USA? There are avenues in the AKC clubs for pet people
where they can interact with other Cavalier owners and breeders. Most of the
regional clubs have fun matchs, parties, newsletters, health clinics and
committees these people can help and be involved, and yes they are welcomed.
I give membership applications to all my puppy people and encourage them to
get involved. There is a question that I would like to ask and that is do
pet owners have sufficient knowledge and experience to make decisions on
critical issues that impact the breed and the sport of purebred dogs, ie. the
breed standard, breeding, whelping, and health issues to name a few?
Pet owners in the CKCSC,USA, I have heard, are very concerned that AKC has
increased puppy mills. Well, most puppy mill puppies are not even registered
by the AKC and fall under registries like the UKC, FIC etc. AKC is very
tough regarding there registry and paperwork, ask anyone that has had an AKC
rep visit them for an inspection. Does the CKCSC,USA randomly and routinely
inspect and come to members homes to check conditions, paperwork and numbers
of litters bred.
These are only a few questions that come to mind that bears some reflection
and maybe some comment from others on the list.
The AKC is big enough for all of us to exist, show , interact and protect our
breed but this schism is preventing us from working as a unified group for
the advancement, health and overall good of this lovely breed. Some one on
the list said if all people had their cavalier's temperment we would not have
this problem!
Just my thoughts,
Tina
