Hi,

I am going to stick my neck out here a bit. If you are indeed seeing a dog
that looks like "pieces put together from different dogs" at AKC shows,
then to me that says that there are too many people getting into this breed
who are not doing their homework. The internet has been a good/bad thing.
Years ago, before the internet, breeders were a bit more unapproachable and
I think that new people getting into the breed realized that they had to
take their time and work their way up. I think that is true of many breeds.
It is almost too easy today to jump with both feet into the dog world
without a clue.... buy up dogs (at very high prices) without much thought
to the distant pedigree behind the dogs...and then breeding those dogs even
though they have no close common ancestors....and we are surprised when
type is lost???

I spent many years on the sidelines just sitting and watching. Hey, I am
still sitting and watching and hopefully learning..LOL. The number of
imports that are coming over are astounding...so why are people having
problems with type? I really believe IMHO, that without a good mentor and
a good understanding of the lines behind the dogs and what lines seem to
niche in with each other that type will indeed be easy to lose. It is very
sad to even hear mention of an "American Cavalier" or an "English Cavalier".

Kind regards,
Kim
