Hi, Peggy,
        Thanks for this informative post.

I don't have a difficulty with the concept of private treaty.
I would rather be told that the stud is unavailable as I HAVE been told
by one reputable breeder who said "he is young yet and I've only used
him twice and I really want to avoid the frequently used sire syndrome;
however if you want to use him next year that is fine".

In fact, it would be fine with me if the stud owner just didn't like the
prospective breeding; certainly their perogative to turn me down. I know
there will come a time when I have to say this to someone else; I know I
don't want my affix out there on a pup that is ill bred.
THIS is not the same thing.

I am also fine with someone who doesn't want their stud used at any
price as they want control of their affix. I understand this concept
(though don't always agree with it if it is a great line that would
benefit the breed) and accept it.

Both of these dogs are available to anyone for their price.

I am determined enough that it looks like I'll be driving close to eight
hundred miles to breed to the stud of my choice. And, the fee is more
than reasonable.

I also have no problem if a stud owner likes the prospective breeding
and wishes to purchase a second pick but I prefer to have that said as a
possibility. I am happier to run on a couple for eight months or so if
I need to so do, and I hate the idea of pressure in making the decision
about which to pick too early. I would much prefer to say if I ran on
two and then let one go, I would give them a right of first refusal
should it be a show or breeding prospect.

This is especially true as Cavaliers grow slowly into maturity I am
finding and each line grows so differently.

How about $2500? I was quoted that.

The above quote was for a champion.
