I truly do not know much about the breeding stock in Sweden but I do know one thing -- if a breeder in Sweden imports a dog from any other country, they must have a Cardiologist's clear heart certificate on the PARENTS of this dog when the parents were/are four years of age or older otherwise they are not allowed to breed the imported dog until he/she is four years old and cardiologist heart clear. If, however, the owner of the imported dog has documentation stating that the parents are/were cardiologist heart clear at 4 yrs of age, then the imported dog can be bred at 2yrs of age.
To go one step further, in Sweden, if this imported dog (as an example) is bred at 2 & 3 yrs of age and comes down with MVD at 3 1/2 yrs, none of his/her offspring from those litters can be bred at all. It will certainly be interesting to see the results -- that I do not know. Time will tell -- I think you need to get several generations down the line before you can see the results.
