Greetings, everyone;

As has been pointed out in previous letters, there are breeders that do
testing, but don't necessarily register the results with the OFA and/or
CERF. It is a dangerous assumption - perhaps an arrogant one - that
the intent is to deceive. While I greatly value (and need) the expertise
and evaluations of the hip films (and therefore send the films in to the
OFA), I do not always send results in to the databases for the heart,
eye, and patellas. I have - in my hot little hands - the certification that
states my dog is free of <insert disease> at that time. While it might be
helpful to add to the databases, it is voluntary. Not sending in the
certification certainly doesn't mean that I'm hiding anything!

Tis erroneous to think that if you cannot find the results on the OFA or
CERF websites that there are no positive results! So, yes, I think most
people (breeders) who have done the testing and have the clearances
are quite willing to provide copies of those results. And the there is an
another way answer for inquiries, and around mailing copies of those
certificates: for those people that have websites have only to make
copies and post it as a .jpg or .gif. on a page (link from the puppy or
dog's pages). IE: http://www.DarkStarFamily.com/JasmineHeart.htm -
or - http://www.DarkStarFamily.com/JasminePatellas.htm .

An option here might be what I do, which is to photograph the film
(either at the vet's office, or at home before sending to the OFA), and
have a film record to look at. You can use a digital camera, or scan a
photograph, and post that to your website, or look at or print at any
time. Examples of hip photos: http://www.DarkStarFamily.com/hips.htm
If anyone wants to know how to do that, it's fairly simple but does
require an SLR-type camera or digital which allows you to *focus* the
lens. I usually take several frames to be sure I have a good shot!

cheers,
Sandra
