Yes, isoflorine and another similar anesthesic that I cannot think of the
name right now are very safe.  Howver, most vets use a preanesthetic with
these.  They say it is very hard on the animal to come right at it with a
gas mask, so they use a preanesthetic first, usually a short-acting one.
When you ask the vet if they use iso, their answer is almost always yes.
Asking what pre-anesthetic they use with this is what you need to know.
There are some that are much safer than others, and ones that should not be
used with a heart patient.

There is a lot of information on anesthesizing the heart patient in some of
the cardiac textbooks.
