No roving ambassadress here -- just interested in seeing how the various
countries that produce large numbers of Cavaliers are dealing with/doing
anything about reducing the incidence of MVD and other health problems. From
my questions we see the difficulties in Australia and New Zealand as well as
the pilot programs in France. It is simply educational for us all.

Breeders certainly CAN test for hearts, eyes, hips and patellas -- the question
is whether they DO test for them and then whether they remove them from
breeding. I do not believe there has been much "continuing advancement in
expertise" relating to these four inherited problems in dogs - maybe in other
areas. And yes, of course, sometime breeders will come up with a problem here
or there -- it's not the end of the world. It is just a matter of eliminating
those few dogs from being bred.

As you said, breeding is not a science -- spanners can come at any time!! It
is just a matter of how one deals with the spanners that makes the difference
to the health of one's line and Cavaliers in general.
