<< First of all examining eyes isn't simple - it requires several stages of examination of the lids, cornea and retina under different lighting conditions.>> >From what I have seen at several health clinics it doesn't seem very complicated or invasive. The eye drops are a bit annoying for the dogs, but I wouldn't call it invasive. << X raying hips requires (almost everywhere) a general anaesthetic >> Actually more and more places in the USA will do the hip Xrays for OFA certification without anaesthesia. It took us all of two calls to find one and North Carolina is not a booming metropolis. The first wanted the dog out the second said no problem without anaesthesia. While there may still be area's of the USA where it is more difficult to find a vet willing to xray hips in this manner "almost everywhere" is surely innacurate these days. After having Jeannie describe the difficulties of obtaining the same kind of testing in AU as we have in the USA it made me wonder how the growing number of imports from AU and other areas are grading out when put through the testing here in the USA. I would say if they are passing at a rate equal to or greater then those bred in the USA then whatever system is being used in these other countries must be as effective as what we are using here. If not ... maybe not. Wouldn't it be nice if all of this testing information were public so we would know the answer.
