Hi Annette, A friend of mine who raises labs does this with her puppies as well. She uses the shavings that horse people use in the horse stalls. I use these for my rabbits too. The only thing that I might worry about with Cavaliers is the dust bothering their respiratory system as they are so small, but my friend doesn't seem to have any ill effects with her labs
