Hi, everyone;
I'd like to publicly thank professional handler (and Showdogs-L list
member) Penny "Witch" King for being so generous with her time and
knowledge... She told me that long ago a great handler shared the
information, the "secrets" with him, and the agreement was that down
the road to return the favor by helping someone else. Penny certainly
did that with me!
She was gracious enough to spend time with me the other day to show
me the proper way to bathe, and especially to DRY, my Cavalier so that
she (this particular one that I'm showing right now!) would look as she's
supposed to. Versus, of course, a puff-ball dog that someone hurriedly
blew dry, using the wrong methods, wrong tools, wrong shampoo and
conditioner, etc. I, of course, was doing everything wrong, and my
sweet, cute little Tilly was looking somewhat like Shirley Temple with
some cute li'l curls! Her fur didn't do that on it's own, wasn't that neat of
me to do that to her?!?
Penny grabbed the products that she knows and trusts, and knew
would be best for my dog, and then instructed me on the proper way to
do all of it. And she showed me how to repair and maintain a coat to
good, or rather in *great* condition through grooming as well as the
bathing & drying techniques she shared. I've seen people drying dogs at
shows, dogs that hadn't been wet prior to the drying, but obviously were
trying to erase the kinks or curls that can happen from being in a crate
before being totally dry, or romping in the rain and then mooshing the fur
the wrong way, or having been dried incorrectly. Now I understand it!
Anyway, I'm fervently hoping that I'll remember and be able to re-crate
all that great information right before the next set of shows - keep yer
fingers crossed!
