Hi Patty, I am just checking the mail before I leave for the show in St. Paul
this morning.
I give every dog I own a bath the day before the show and pay special
attention to the ears-I like to leave the shampoo on a little longer in the
ear area while I bathe the rest of the dog. I rinse rinse rinse rinse in
filtered soft water. I use a mineral filter to get rid of the iron in the
water-causes yellow in the white area and turns the black kind of a funny
black. The day of the show I don't feed them until we are done showing, Then
we celebrate with great food mixed with chicken-they look forward to it like
we look forward to going out to the best restaurants in town. I don't use a
conditioner on the ears but I do on the rest of the dog. I have had to
sprinkle my female with baby powder and then brush brush brush to get it out.
The powder will remove any residual oil in the ear area but now you have to
deal with static cling. I use either hair spray or static cling stuff in the
blue arousal can.
In between shows we do hot oil treatments and ice on ice to keep the ears
nice and the coat well lubricated and well as the skin.
I hope this helps. Wish me luck today the competition is very stiff this
weekend and I have never done well at this show site no matter whose dogs or
what they look like.
