If you've ever seen a dog who's ripped a dewclaw off in the field (or on a living room rug), ever seen a dog come in with a horribly lacerated eye from 'boxing' with a playmate and catching a dewclaw in the eye instead, or if you've ever seen a dog come in for grooming with the dewclaw grown completely around in a circle *through* the leg, you'd have three good reasons to remove the things!
