I think that you are probably right that babies and puppies feel the pain.
However, when I was a labor delivery RN, I often had to do the set up/assist
for the circumcisions.  It is true that the babies cried a lot.  They
started crying like that though, as soon as I would put them on what we
called the "Circ Board"  where they are laid down flat and retrained at the
little wrists and ankles.  They really didn't cry any louder or more during
the actual circumcision.  The puppies are sort of the same way.  As soon as
I start holding them in a restrained position, they start making their
little crying sounds.  For sure the moms in both species really suffer
during those procedures.  Myra Savant
