Ok, I figure :) : "Classic submissive behavior." Unless a dog has been really traumatized, pain will be outweighed by the need to "make nice" (love me, don't hurt me) to the one who by inflicting pain demonstrated dominance. So yes it was painful, but -- partly because this isn't a *recurrent* experience -- the dog wasn't traumatized. (Moms might be, though!) Alida
