Hi all,

I wanted to relay a story about a Cavalier that had ear featherings so long
they were getting in the way!

Some of you may remember my Blenheim girl, Sparkle. She was the pup that I
kept from my very first litter, way back in 1982. Sparkle didn't work out
as a show dog but we had many years together in the obedience ring. After
Sparkle had earned her Novice and Open titles, she took a break while I
worked with her Tricolor half-sister, Annie. Annie was a dream, not only
did she win a Best Puppy and a Best of Opposite at the club shows, but she
was a wonderful obedience companion. Sparkle's break lasted a little longer
than anticipated and by the time Annie had earned her Novice, Open, and
Utility titles, Sparkle had matured into a lovely lady with the longest ear
featherings! The featherings became a problem when Sparkle would work her
utility articles. She would sniff all of the articles and would then make
her selection. But as she tried to lift her head with the article in her
mouth, she would give herself a 'correction' as if she had picked up the
wrong article because she was standing on her ears! Poor girl, I had to cut
about 5 inches of feathering off of her ears so she could perform the
exercise without confusing herself. <g> Sparkle went on to earn her utility
title later that year in her first three trials at almost 8 years of age.

Take care, Jackie
