The AKC standard calls for a scissor bite as do "most" of the breeds recognized by AKC. You will find by and large that a dog with a bad bite will not prosper in AKC competition. Some bites will correct in time with growth "if" the occlusion is correct. If the occlusion is not correct or the dog has a "wry" mouth these conditions as a general rule do not improve with age.
IE: If a pup has a correct bite and it goes off in the growth period and the rear teeth "occlusion" stays aligned it will in most cases correct. Once a dogs growth plate has closed it would be very unusual for this to occur. Makes one wonder if the Cavalier growth plast stays open longer than in other breeds allowing for these late changes that are being stated? Also I do find it interesting all the talk about kneeling, whitening and such being so taboo. Yet here on the board there is open talk going on about "manipulating" a dogs bite in order to win! Which BTW is illegal in AKC events as it is a physical correction of a dogs fault.
