Myra, regarding chalking, I have to agree with what I read recently in the PBGV breed column in the AKC Gazette. It says do not overinterpret the standard. Their standard says casual and tousled-which as stated does not mean dirty, stained or unkempt. Anything can be taken to the extreme. No trimming means, no trimming. Artificial alteration is changing something that was not naturally there. I can't speak for others, but at some dusty show grounds-chalk and corn starch do a heck of a job in removing dirt from furnishings. I would never attend a show without my chalk. AKC rule book says not to alter natural color, shade or markings. If a substance has been used for cleaning purposes, it is to be removed before dog enters the ring. Chalk works best as a cleaning agent when it and the dirt are removed:)
