Sue - I have already sent a strongly worded post to the Judges List on this subject - an extract below......I know I not supposed to cross post but as this is my own post - I hope I won't get into trouble! "Since the very beginnings of the breed in its homeland and in every other part of the world where Cavaliers comprise usually the largest entry in the Toy group, it has been a strong tradition respected by ALL that the Cavalier should be shown with the handler STANDING , the dog free standing four square with tail gently - not frantically - wagging. I appeal to all of you who judge this breed - please, please, please don't let America change a breed tradition............such knowledgeable and redoubtable judges as Mrs Clarke will ask handlers of Cavaliers to stand up. She is entirely correct to do so and I would ask all of you to insist on the same. Besides being the correct thing to do, it will enhance your reputation as a judge of the breed with all the Cavalier people! VBG It lies within your power to reverse this insidious trend . While it may seem unimportant to you as a judge whether the handler stands or kneels, it is of great importance to the people involved with the breed who fear that "kneeling" may just be the forerunner of "topping and tailing" which is anathema to all Cavalier fanciers. If you see anyone doing that I beg of you, stop it immediately. Hoping that this hasn't offended anyone, I'm certainly not "anti American" VBG but I do care about my breed" I have had a number of private responses to the post so obviously there are some judges out there who are thinking about this and will do the right thing. Its really important I think to get to the provisionals while they are still receptive and in a "learning" frame of mind!
