I have been a "lurking" member of this list for
several months while I waited to bring home our new
cavalier puppy. Well, he came home to live with us in
Minnesota two weeks ago, so I thought I'd make an
introduction! His name is Teddy (Roycroft Trick or
Treat), and he is so very sweet! He survived the
12-hour drive from Ohio to Minnesota like a trooper.
It didn't even seem to phase him. We are starting to
go to handling classes together. Since he is such fun
to be with, I even entered him in a fun match last
Saturday, where he won the toy group! His favorite
things to do at the match were to smell everything
within 10 feet (including the behinds of each and
every dog if I wasn't watching), to munch on treats,
and to gait as quickly as possible without breaking
into a gallop! He has a lot of training to do to get
*me* in ready and in shape for showing (grn).

Now for my travel question: I am planning a spring
break trip next week to visit my parents in Texas with
my two boys (ages 6 and 8) and Teddy. Since this will
be Teddy's first experience on an airplane, and my
first experience taking a dog on an airplane, I would
appreciate any tips for travel that any of you have.
I'm planning to use a Sherpa bag for him. What can I
do to make the 2-1/2 hour flight as easy on him as
possible?

Also, I'm planning to go to the Ft. Worth shows to
watch. I've heard mixed descriptions of the rules for
taking along a dog that is not entered. On the one
hand, people talk about taking a puppy to shows to get
them used to having fun at a show. On the other hand,
I've heard that it is against the rules to take a dog
that is not entered to an AKC show. So, what is the
real deal? ;-)

Anyway, here I am. I'm likely to be a lurker for the
most part, but might put my novice response out there
every now and then. I have loved reading this list.
You all have been one of my primary sources of support
while I waited, and waited, and *waited* for Teddy to
come home with me. Thank you so much!
