Hi, Robin,
It sounds like you are having a ball with your Cavalier Teddy. I hope
many happy years are ahead of both of you showing and having fun
together.
When I fly with a dog, I take the water cup and freeze it so that they
can lick it but not drink heavily. I withhold food for twelve hours
prior to flight time and water six hours prior to flight time. I use
the frozen water bowl trick and also ask for supplementary ice cubes if
necessary. I carry bottled water with me so that change of water isn't
a problem. I have a small first aid kit which I bring which includes a
few necessary things in case of a problem. (Pepto Bismol, a
thermometer, baby strength buffered aspirin, vet wrap, bandage, hydrogen
peroxide, three way eye ointment, panalog ointment, large size guaze
pads, eye wash/flush). I make sure that the dog is walked as late as
possible prior to boarding and also as fast as possible after getting
off the plane. As soon as we are off the plane I offer bottled water.
I keep a chew toy with me to offer the pup if he wakes up and wants
something to do. Try to bring a new one or a favorite one so that the
pup is happy to see it there and uses it.

I use vet bed on the sherpa bottom with newspaper underneath just in
case and carry an extra towel or vet bed with a small size garbage bag
in case of emergency mess. If possible I keep the dog up as late as
possible the night before the flight playing so that the dog is tired
and sleeps on the plane.
The "real" deal is that you can't bring a dog not entered to an ACK
show and if you do and you are caught you will be thrown out. Yes,
people do it........and some do get caught. I was recently there when
someone brought a pup for evaluation by another breeder and the AKC rep
caught on fast and out went pup and pup's owner. It is also a great
place for dogs to contract disease, so if you are thinking of going to
the show, perhaps there is a place that your pup can stay while you are
there.

I hope that this is helpful and that you have a super time together!
