I have to agree that the majority of AKC judges have no clue as to proper Cavalier breed type, but some do. You just have to look for the some. I have found WAY too many who think a Cavalier shouldn't be compact or cobby, but should in fact have the more athletic sporting dog look. I'm not guessing about this, I have been specifically told so by a few judges when I asked. Someone needs to re-educate these judges about proper Cavalier type. I think there are too many areas of the country where there are very few entries and often very poor quality dogs that these judges also have assignments in, so they keep *forgetting* what proper type is. Yes, they do pick handlers sometimes just because they are handlers but I honestly feel the majority do not know what proper Cavalier type is--handlers or no handlers. I believe that is sometimes why they resort to picking a handler. I do believe some also resort to judging strictly on movement when they aren't sure what proper breed type is.
