If you already have a digital camera, you can buy a video capture device for your computer for about $150 I think. Most hook up to a USB or parallel port. You install it on your computer, along with the software of course, plug your video camera into it and hit play - the tape will play on your screen and you can "snap" the pictures you want either as the tape continues to play or by pausing the camera at just the right spot and then snapping. It has really reduced the frustaration of taking puppy pictures - and also made it possible for me to take them without help when Mel used to travel.... I have had mine for about 4 years - we got it at CompUSA I think. Just do a search on video capture devices and you will find a bunch of information. Ours works much better than a the very expensive video capture card that we had bought first (yuck, bad images).
