I'll venture a guess. In Goldens when we look at a potential pup's rear,
besides the turn of stifle, length of second thigh and short hocks from the
side we also lift the tail and see what it looks like from behind. There we
want to see parallel hocks that don't turn in or out when lifted and plopped
down naturally, not stacked AND the shape made by the inside inner thighs. A
perfect upside down U that is a bit wide at the curve is what is desirable.
If the upside down U is even slightly narrow it is believed to contribute to
a weak rear. Other sporting breed people I know also look for this. Do the
Cavalier breeders look for this in the same manner?
