Kathy -

I started doing Prelims about 3 years ago when I was trying to decide if
I was going to keep a puppy I'd bred. Then last year I bought a Ruby
boy from California for breeding. He has heart clear grandparents back
on both sides to about 11 1/2 but I imposed a condition of sale that he
had to score "good" or better on his OFA Prelim. Luckily he did. Now I
do it routinely to decide if a dog or bitch will be used for breeding.
Everyone has stayed the same from Prelim to Final, except for one who
went from Good to Fair. This is the one who can jump on to the kitchen
counter from a standing position so I'm not worried about her! <G> She
was also evaluated at a time when OFA was having some trouble with their
Doctors and were making some changes internally. I never bothered to
have them done again for the 3rd time. I think most people will tell
you the results will stay the same, but I'd me curious to hear what they
say. My percentage is 86% stayed the same. I am also very fortunate
in that BOTH Vets I use for OFA's will do them without anesthesia if
they can, and I've only had to use it once.
