Janine...LOL that is truth who wants to breed "ugly"!!! Type, temperment, and conformation needs to be the first consideration!!! I feel like you... that longevity need to be a primarily measure in a pedigree...since there are other health issues than MVD that can cause early death before age 8. If you do not look at this...you could echange one "poison" for another in genetics. Also longevity need to be evaluate in the littermates of a dog..this give a better profile. You may have been lucky to have one dog with delayed onset of a disease, but the littermates have all died young. Some breeders brat that they are fine in the area of health, yet there first generation have not reach the problematic ages yet.
