Leaves Hi,
I have been watching this thread for quite some time now. Since I have joined this list, it has been repeated 3 times now. I have decided to come out of lurk mode to bring up a point that I feel has not been thought through. At least not that I have seen. I keep hearing comments like "AKC Breeder Only", CKCSCUSA Breeder Only, and AKC/CKCSCUSA Breeder". Correct me if I am wrong, but we do not breed for the AKC. We do not breed for the CKCSCUSA. Are you not Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Breeders who either register your dogs with the AKC, CKCSCUSA or both? There are breeders who are club members with either one or both clubs. But this does not make them a "AKC", "CKCSCUSA" or "AKC/CKCSCUSA" BREEDER. I think it would be better if one said I am a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Breeder who register's my dogs with....fill in the blank. One could follow up with I am also a member of the...again fill in the blank. I just wanted everybody to put club affiliations aside and think about this. What it boils down to me is, the dog. Is he a dog that is healthy, has a good temperament, is structurally sound, has type and the Cavalier personality we have all grow to love?? From what I have researched, both clubs have a code of ethics. Both clubs want to guard this lovely breed. I appalled both of these clubs for this. When I am looking for a dog for either a breeding program or my next show special, I look at the genetics. I go as far back as I can in the pedigree. Just because it is registered with AKC, CKCSCUSA , or both, does not make it a better dog. I know this point has been brought up several times on the list, but felted that it should be stated again and again!! The saddest thing I see about this whole thread is that there might be an excellent Dog that is AKC registered and an excellent Bitch is CKCSCUSA registered or visa versa, and we will never see the wonderful puppies from this breeding only because of the way these two excellent animals were registered. That to me to very sad. Is this truly guarding the breed?? I will go back into lurk mode and go on to enjoy this wonderful breed without worrying which club they are registered with. Knowing that they come from excellent breeders who put their dogs first is tops in my books. Side note: I am not a pet owner, but have been showing and breeding dogs (in other breeds) for about 35 years.
