There are also frogs that live on the land - among others, leopard frogs and tree frogs. As far as I have been able to find out, frog-eating Cavaliers seem to suffer from upset tummies and bowels if they suffer at all from eating a frog - we have a 10 year old and a 4 year old who are avid frog hunters and have suffered no serious ill affects other than an ocassional digestive tract upset. With the exception of the leopard frog, most frogs have shades of green and medium brown on their back, head and legs, with a pale green to white belly and throat. Leopard frogs are borwn and white on the back and head and have a very distinct demarcation between the brown and white. Frogs have a shiny and much smoother skin than toads. Again as far as I know, the markings on toads are of varying shades of cream, brown and grey. The pattern of the markings are nowhere near as distinct as those on a leopard frog. Although like frogs they have a pale belly with no markings, their skin is *very* bumpy and dull. Toads also have a squarer shape than frogs do - frogs are a little more streamlined looking with a body that is obviously longer than it is wide.... Finally, I have never seen a dog have a foamy mouth while or after messing with a frog - and our two avid froggers, are both masters at getting the entire dratted thing tucked up in their mouths so that the only clue that they have a "goody" is a slight greater fullness of the lips <g>. Makes for some interesting evenings!
