I sent the following letter to the editor of Dog Nes today. I hope they print it!
Judy Gates <<To the Editor: As I read Ms. Kodner's April 5 column, I am reminded of Tokyo Chikuken (sp?) in the 60's when that conglomerate bought hundreds of AKC-registered purebred breeding stock from 'legitimate breeders', shipped these 'foundation dogs' to Japan, where their home-raised healthy, properly cared for 'quality' puppies were to be shipped back to the USA for sale in that company's retail outlets. What a disaster and an outright tragedy that was! According to the overview provided by Kodner, ethical breeders of purebred dogs ought to now endorse the Hunte Corporation's high standards of operation, and once again dog-breeders have an acceptable 'partner' in breeding and selling 'retail' with the latest high-volume and purely-for-profit company. And Ms Kodner says "the grease pits are as clean as the cages holding the puppies". What a novel approach to puppy-raising! How 'nice' for all of us to let our imaginations hold THAT image! The road to hell, it has been often said, is paved with good intentions. Well, I for one have never believed that, but Ms Kodner suggests that we all consider tripping down that road again on behalf of "making money in a legitimate fashion" with our purebred dogs. I don't think so!
