According to my *very old* Vet book, there is a condition called Hemorrhagic
Syndrome in newborn puppies. It is due to lack of prothrombin, a clotting
factor in the blood which depends upon Vitamin K for its synthesis.

Symptoms are bleeding from body openings and sometimes internal hemorrhage
due to trauma (such as being born).

According to the book when one puppy bleeds, all the puppies in the litter
should be treated with an injection of Vitamin K.

I hate *old* books as medical information is changing at a very rapid rate
and old books tend to be very much behind the times, but this information
may still be helpful in some way.
