Well, Cathy, the nine puppies would explain the small size as the in utero nutrition can only stretch so far. However, our average litter size is 4. Most of our puppies are over 8 ounces with the biggest being over 12 ounces (weighed at the vet's as he was born there). For my line, a pup that is under 4 ounces is much smaller than normal. We've had ones that were 4 oz to live and do fine, but not a 3.5 oz one. All the best, Susan Cochran
