Right before we imported our first English dog, the rule was changed that they had to be chipped before they could leave the US. It is my understanding that it was because of the problems with the scanners here reading the chips placed there. We imported our first cavalier in 98, and it didn't have to be chipped. They do have to be chipped, tatooed or DNA'd before they can be registered with AKC. We've never had to have one chipped in the UK yet, and are imported another in June...same with him. Myra
