Kris, is there a cardiologist in your area? Taking your girl to a
cardiologist once a year would be wonderful. If not, you could check out
the shows in your area and see if there is going to be a heart clinic at any
of them. Who is it that graded her murmur? If it was your regular vet, it
is very likely that it's higher than a grade I/II. Many regular vets cannot
hear murmurs until they are a grade III. My former vet was excellent at
hearing murmurs, yet she graded both Dinah & Savannah's at least one grade
lower than they actually were.

Also, when I was going to another vet, I took a foster in at one point and
asked him to listen carefully to his heart. He said he did not have a
murmur, yet when I took him to the Uniersity of Tennessee Vet School (UT) it
was a grade III. Another foster I had was one that was left at a local vet.
When I picked him up, I asked if he had a murmur and they said he did not.
I asked two of the vets at that clinic to listen to his heart, and they both
said he did not have a murmur. When I took him to UT, it was a grade III.

Another example is one time when I took Savannah to UT when she was getting
very ill. The vet student who saw us first said she did not have a murmur.
I told him she did, and it was a grade III. He started arguing with me
until I told him that at least two regular vets, as well as Dr. Gompf, the
cardiologist, had told me that she did. He never did hear it. If there's
any way of getting to a cardiologist, I think it's well worth the trouble.
A cardiologist is also much better at reading chest x-rays than a regular
vet.
