Susan, 99% of the time you would be correct in this assumption. But I had something really off-the-wall happen to me once, right along this thread. I had a gorgeous Samoyed stud. A fellow came up to me at a show and asked me what his stud fee was. First I explained that I needed to see the bitch and pedigree and proof of current brucellosis testing before I would consider a breeding, then I told him what I charged. The guy says, "My female doesn't have papers. She's only half-Siberian. But I saw this beautiful boy of yours and thought what fantastic puppies she would have with him."
Needless to say, there was no further discussion of stud service with this guy. Hopefully no one else indulged his idiocy either. If I had a Cavalier stud, I'd want to know about the bitch and her owner before agreeing to allow my stud to be used. I would want to know what will happen to the puppies that would bear my dog's name. But that doesn't mean I'm unwilling to share genes in the name of genetic diversity. I just want some details. :) Laura Warner Bradford, PA ===== Original Message From The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel List <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> ===== >Cathy, an owner of a Great Dane or other breed would not bother to look for >a registered stud of another breed nor would a they consider paying a stud >fee for a mismating.
