Myra, the last c-section we had cost just under $400. It has been a couple of years now since we had to have one done, so it may be higher now. Vet fees for routine things have skyrocketed. I recently paid $96 for health certificates on 4 puppies. This used to cost me one office visit fee of about $21. This is the same vet, but they sure have jacked their fees up. Even with the increase in vet fees it is still false economy to risk losing your female as well as the puppies. Even if you are cold-hearted, a nice female cavalier is not that replaceable. Maybe they are easier to find in your area. Pretty scarce down here BTW.
When a breeder takes those kind of risks rather than pay for vet care, they should quit breeding dogs. Sometimes when I hear of what people are doing these days, I wonder what in the world has happened to common sense. Seems like it is in short supply and not just for dog breeders. I listen to some of the "experts" on the news shows talk about schools or whatever and I wonder how they can spout such errant nonsense without disappearing into a puff of smoke. The most recent one was some idiot school in the West which is barring a graduating student from the graduation exercises if the student was not going on to college-- despite the fact that the student had earned their diploma.
