Myra, I was not saying that a spay was not serious. However, a spay lasts about 30 minutes and they go in and take out the uterus etc. Exploratory or blockage surgeries can last almost 2 hours. They go in and actually move the organs around and at times makes cuts into the intestines, etc. Also, in a spay if there are external sutures they are just stitches. In an exploratory or blockage they actually use staples. Rimadyl has been used for arthritic pain in the past. But I have found that more and more vets are using it for take home pain meds for smaller surgeries.
