Cindy- we also run our cavalier in agility and to keep him cooler take along a cool pad for him to lie on. These were written about last year on the list( filling the padded cells by soaking in a tub of coolish water). I put mine in the refrigerator until I am ready to load the dog in the car.
According to the manufacturer they stay cool for 7 to 10 hours) I apologize for not remembering where I bought mine, but 'll need another this year. Does anyone have any articles stating research that confirms dogs cool soley through panting as well as their bellies? We bought a battery operated fan and we put up his tent or umbrel depending on how hot it is and keep him in the shade most the da. Somedays in mid summer we put up both. He likes to sit on his canvas chair which is wonderful in that we can wet down the canvas chair and he can lay on that. The actual time he is excerting himself is during a breif warmup for his run and his actual course runs. We have a cart that he rides to the site to keep him off the hot asphalt or hot cement. We also turn off the automobile airconditioner on the way to an event as it cools them down too much to have them later get out of the car into heat. Quite a stress to leave a cool car into the hotter air. good luck Sarah West Westcourt Cavaliers Ventura Ca USA ========================================================= "Magic Commands": to stop receiving mail for awhile, click here and send the email: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?body=SET%20CKCS-L%20NOMAIL to start it up gain click here: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?body=SET%20CKCS-L%20MAIL E-mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] for assistance.
