It has always been my understanding that the hobby of breeding and
exhibiting our creations is a beloved hobby...like golf, boating, water
skiing, sound systems, tv, movies...and that our time and efforts are richly
paid by the experience itself. We are "paid" in full by the enjoyment we
have from the involvement that also includes the rich friendships with other
breeders we would have never met without our mutual interests of the dogs. I
don't believe that any of the above mentioned hobbies bring in $$ to pay us
for our efforts. We personally do not sell dogs - for this reason. We are
still (after 50 years) thrilled with the process of the litter every few
years and the fun of getting them in the ring and seeing them win (and lose!
which is much less fun, vbg). This is not intended to be a criticism of
anyone else's methods of how they conduct their affairs, merely our point of
view. To us, dogs are a hobby. The selling price of one of ours is a
donation to the local humane society in the name of the dog. We know others
who feel as we do, including our esteemed veterinarian. Just offering yet
another way or 'doing' dogs, there are many of course, it is up to the
individual.
